A Few Thoughts About Thoughts.

I've been ruminating on thinking traps, patterns, biases and what I now think is the myth of 'overthinking' a fair bit recently so here goes.

🐇 Going down the rabbit hole
We rarely go down the positive rabbit hole. Try blocking off the rabbit warren with the point below.

🧐 Facts and evidence
"Where are the facts and evidence to suggest that situation is going to turn out that way?"

👃 Bad smells
Your thoughts are like bad smells, not pleasant, some hang around for longer than others, but they rarely stay forever. Just sit with it, it'll pass. (credit  Pete Olusoga, PhD.)

⚖️ Why don't you balance the books?
For every negative thought, create one positive one.

😲 You're an over-engager not an over-thinker
You likely over engage with too many of your negative thoughts, going down the rabbit hole and not balancing the books. That's not over thinking, that's over-engaging.

💡 You cannot control what thoughts pops into your head
You can train the skill of more positive conscious thought, and your subconscious is susceptible to influence. But, no. You don't get to choose what pops into your head, BUT 👇

🙅🏻‍♂️ You can control what thoughts you engage with
You do have a choice which ones you engage with.
