Clear the Noise.
We waste a considerable amount of time and energy focusing on small things which get in the way of performance. Personally and professionally, one of the easiest traps to fall into is focusing on things which aren’t that important and detract you from what you truly want.
Noise includes negative people and opinions, our thoughts and behaviours, important but not essential tasks, 1 % ers, nice to do not need to do tasks, our own biases, “the way things have always been done” (blood boiling phrase), and generally anything which isn’t fully aligned to what we are trying to achieve.
It’s all just noise…
🙅🏻♂️ Detracts us from what is really important
🙅🏻♂️ Slows progress and keeps us stuck
🙅🏻♂️ Saps energy for you and your relationships
🙅🏻♂️ Obstacle not opportunity focussed
🙅🏻♂️ Supports a fixed mindset
🙅🏻♂️ Alters your environment
🙅🏻♂️ Keep us distracted and encourages procrastination
🙅🏻♂️ Encourages negative problems centred environments
When we look at the list, there isn’t anything on here that we would genuinely want to have and represent. But what we tolerate and engage in, we encourage.
This week I have been guilty of these things both personally and professionally. Personally, I’ve focussed on what I DO NOT have rather than what I DO HAVE, on what I want in the future not what I have right now. Professionally, I’ve been dragged into sapping and focussing on the nice to-do’s not the need to-do’s. When I walked away from the noise, everything shifted for me and the environments.
You can’t switch all noise off but you can turn it down by learning to shift your attention to what you truly value and what moves you towards where you want to be.
What noise can you walk away from? I’d love to hear your ideas below…
