Well, this means that the vast majority of young drivers looking to make it to the top echelons of motorsport will not make it. Understanding these stats and the implications of them creates a huge opportunity for aspiring drivers, but the lessons are tough to take on...

So what do they tell us?

🧠 You need an incredible amount of self-awareness to understand the enormity of the task and also where you sit on the pathway to the top.

📈 You need to have a plan and to periodise your progression to get you from where you are now to the top. Know your milestones.

🫂 You need to surround yourself with the right people, to nurture your talent, guide you, share harsh realities and inspire you. Choose wisely.

😓 You need to do the work. No one else can do it for you.

🙇‍♂️ You are going to lose more than you win. Reframe 'losing as learning' and build the resilience you'll need to draw upon during tough times.

😠 You have got to be relentless in your persuit. People and circumstances will push you off course. Learn to accept and push back.

😮‍💨 Your recovery and switch-off is just as important as the work. You aren't the job.

Come to think of it, these pointers apply to any of us trying to achieve what some might feel is the impossible, insurmountable monster challenges.
