Why I Got Rejected for 5 Major Interviews
In 2016 I applied for 5 BIG jobs, the biggest opportunities of my career at that point.
I got 5 interviews and 5 rejections.
WHY?
I look back now and I can see that I was not capable of putting myself forward positively, I was negative and did not present myself in a way that would make an employer invest in me. I was a risk for them.
When I look back at that period of time, I recall the most basic of tasks seeming to be impossible to me, mistakes were commonplace and my fulfilment had all but disappeared from the job.
I was incredibly cynical towards the role I had, and the people around me, I felt very undervalued, appreciated and supported.
I was so desperate to get out, I thought it was environmental and just the place and people that needed to change. It wasn’t, it was me.
I was basically screaming ‘Get me out’, not ‘welcome me in’.
MY SOLUTION…
Back then I was naive, I didn’t know what was happening or why. I worked tirelessly and I gave everything. Why me I thought. So my solution was to double down and to go and get another job of course. Which would see me leave the house before 6am and arrive home after 10pm 4 nights a week, then work another 2 days on top.
THE OUTCOME…
Needless to say, that didn’t last long or end well. I gave everything to the new place and my current role leaving even less for my loved ones and myself.
This was the point at which I fell asleep behind the wheel on the motorway. I’ve spoken about this in previous emails. It was stupid, there were so many warning signs, but I just didn’t know what they were or heed the warnings.
I was creeping towards burnout and then the bang came.
The impact of this incident forced me to change my life, but I hadn’t addressed the root cause.
It wasn’t until many years later when I began working with Dr. Pete Oluoga around burnout and stress management that I realised what changes I needed to make in my mindset and approach to my work that I found sustainable solutions.
This work changed my life, and has given me the skills to identify my reactions to stress, what stresses me, the environmental stressors of my workplace and how I can mitigate these risk factors with proactive strategies.
Since this work changed my life, Dr Pete and I have built this process and strategy into a solution for you. We created THRIVE a 6-week, comprehensive and interactive course which will guide you towards a sustainable coaching career.
It’s time to move from surviving to thriving.
